TRAINING GROUNDS and FACILITIES

[Grounds] [Facilities] [Training Birds]

Grounds

Located in Concord, North Carolina, our training grounds contain fields with numerous types of cover and heights ranging from planted wheat fields, hay fields, broom straw, and green fields. Our grounds guarantee exposing the dog to as many different plots and terrain as possible expanding his experiences and keeping him challenged and focused.

We have 4 ponds of various size and depth, and a 32 - Acre Lake to insure proper introduction to water for puppies and older dogs at various training levels. Whether doing:

  • Introduction to water
  • Basic “bumper” water retrieves
  • Lining – drills
  • Varying degrees of difficulty on duck searches
  • To the most demanding and technical blind retrieves

Carolina Gun Dog Kennels has the resources to accomplish the task.
Our training grounds now consist of over 2500 acres after our new
acquisition in South Carolina, acquired specifically for our NAVDHA Utility Prize I and Versatile Champion specialized water work.

Southern Plantation Pine with broom straw add to the dogs experience for quail hunting. Flooded Timber and Corn encompass the grounds ensuring the most realistic, challenging and intricate training scenarios possible. The refinement needed for the complete “Versatile Gun Dog”.

Facilities

Our In-Door Kennel has been completely remodeled and offers all the comforts and conveniences your best friend should have. All the dogs have there own individual kennel runs which are cleaned and washed out 5 times per day, the dogs sleep in elevated barrels with cedar shavings for soft bedding, and have a fully enclosed 175’ x 175’ run which is directly attached to the kennel and allows for all the exercise and fresh air needed.

Training Birds

In training for the complete Versatile Gun Dog, the quote “the more birds, the better” is very precise and there is nothing more valuable in a dogs preparation. We use ducks, pheasants, chukkar, quail, and pigeons while your dog is in training. This past year, Carolina Gun Dog Kennels purchased an incubator to begin raising their own pheasant and quail to ensure a surplus of birds at all times. At the moment we are constructing large enclosed flight pens to assure the healthiest and hardiest of all flight birds.
